What they were carrying

Priya had been VP Marketing for eighteen months when she joined Commune. She was producing results — pipeline up, CAC down, board happy — but she was running on fumes and pretending otherwise. "I had become very good at performing confidence," she says. "I had no idea what I actually thought about anything anymore."

What shifted

The first session she attended, someone asked: "What are you doing that you know isn't working but can't stop?" She had an answer immediately. It was the first honest sentence she'd said in a professional context in months. She's been back every month since.

"I wasn't looking for a community. I was looking for one room where I didn't have to be impressive."

James Okoye

Brand Strategist · Freelance, London → Remote

What they were carrying

James had been freelancing for four years and loved the freedom. What he hadn't anticipated was the intellectual loneliness. "When you're always the expert in the room, you stop being curious," he says. "I was giving the same three talks and charging more for them. I wasn't growing."

What shifted

He found Commune through a referral and attended the first session planning to observe. He spoke for eleven minutes about a rebrand he'd been afraid to take on. By the end, he had a decision. He took the project. It became his best work.

What Happens Here

Less networking. More thinking out loud.

Commune isn't a content library or a Discord server with a paywall. It's a scheduled practice — like therapy, but for your marketing brain.

Sessions run 90 minutes. Attendance is capped. The Slack channel exists, but nobody is expected to be on it. The point is depth, not volume.

"We explicitly don't allow pitching, self-promotion, or positioning advice disguised as questions. It took three months to build that norm. It's the whole product."

— Commune community guidelines

Small-Group Sessions

Six to eight people. One facilitator. A shared question that nobody’s allowed to answer with a framework. Every third Tuesday.

Playbook Swaps

Members post a real document — a launch brief, a positioning deck, a post-mortem — and the group gives honest notes, not flattery.

Workshop Launches

Bring a live campaign, a pitch you’re unsure about, or a strategy you’ve been stalling on. The room helps you move.

Recorded Open Sessions

Monthly conversations open to anyone curious. One topic, no sales pitch, full recording available to non-members for 30 days.

"The format isn't a feature. The format is the product. Everything else is just the excuse to be in the room."

James O., Brand Strategist

In Their Words

Seventy-three members. One honest room.

"I spent three years being the smartest person in every room. Commune was the first place I got to be the student again."

"The question I submitted on the registration form? Someone answered it in the first session. I knew I was home."

"After my layoff I felt like I'd lost my identity. Here nobody cares about your title — they care what you're actually thinking."

Naomi Park

Marketing Director, post-layoff

"I built a team of 18 people and realized I hadn't had a real peer conversation in two years. This community fixed that."

"The playbook swap sessions alone saved me 40 hours of research. But the real value is the 11pm voice notes with people who get it."

"I was always the one running workshops. Being in the seat that asks the questions — that changed how I teach entirely."
